In The News

Boys are in the news! Take a look at this story from the Today Show:

No wonder more boys than girls are ending up with “learning problems.” But believe it or not, this kind of interactive, multisensory, discovery-based learning is great for girls, too.

Little girls' brains can often manage better in a structured language-based setting, but all of our children would be more successful and eager learners if their classrooms included movement and hands-on learning. We would almost certainly have fewer children diagnosed with learning disabilities.

But what about those who really do have dyslexia or some other type of reading, writing, or math disorder? What about those smart children who lack the attention, organization, or skills to be comfortable and successful in school?

Here's what we know about learning problems, based on research in the field and our experience over the past 24 years with thousands of children and teens.

  • A great teacher makes a difference
  • An interactive, multisensory environment makes a big difference.

But in order to permanently solve most learning problems, the underlying processing skills must be addressed.

The skills addressed at school, in tutoring, and in most other programs have to do with information, or WHAT students learn. Our cognitive (processing) skills training helps identify and strengthen skills behind HOW students learn. When these skills are in place, even students who have previously struggled can read and learn better.
